York Jaycees Signature Projects
Flag Project - Since 1959, the York Jaycees have been putting out flags outside of local businesses 9 holidays a year for a small fee to the business. These business can choose to have the Jaycees put out their flags 9 holidays a year or lease thier flag so they can put it out whenever they want. This patriotic project is one of the longest running Jaycees projects in the state of Nebraska. The money generated from this projects helps the chapter run their other projects throughout the year that benefit the York community. In 2011, the York Jaycees put out almost 120 flags all over the York Community.
The holidays that flags go out are:
- Armed Forces Day (May)
- Memorial Day (May)
- Flag Day (June)
- Independence Day (July)
- Labor Day (September)
- Patriot's Day (September)
- Yorkfest (September)
- Columbus Day (October)
- Veterans Day (November)

York County Fair Figure 8 Races - Annually the York Jaycees in conjunction with the York County Fair Board, plan and run the York County Fair Figure 8 Races that typically run during the Saturday evening of the York County Fair. This is the York Jaycees biggest fundraiser of the year. All proceeds of this event go back into our chapter and toward our projects that benefit the York Community.
Youth Comptetitions - Throughout the year the York Jaycees host 3 youth competitions for local kids to compete and get an opportunity to compete at the state and in some cases a chance to compete at a national competitions. All of the youth comptetions are free of charge for all kids as well as the state sectionals!!
The York Jaycees host the following youth competitions:
Supershooters - This youth competition is for kids, boys and girls, aged 6 to 13 years old, to compete in the aspects of basketball. Each child will have 60 seconds to make as many baskets as they can from various marked locations on the gym floor. Kids are scored by number of attempts, number of baskets, and how many times each location is attempted. Top place in each age group is eligible to compete at the state sectional. Supershooters is typically run during Feburary or March of the year.
Pitch Hit and Run - This youth competition is for kids, boys and girls, aged 6 to 15 years old, to compete in the aspects of baseball/softball. Each child will comptete in pitching, hitting and running bases. Scores are taken by accuracy, distance and/or time. Top places in each age group are eligible to compete in the state sectional. Pitch, Hit, and Run is typically ran during April or May of the year.
Punt Pass and Kick - This youth competition is for kids, boys and girls, aged 6 to 15 years old, to compete in the aspects of football. Each child will compete in punting, passing and kicking. The kids will be scored based on distance and accuracy. Top places in each age group will be eligible to compete at the state sectional. Punt, Pass and Kick is typically ran during August or September.

York Jaycees Scholarship - The York Jaycees give an award of $500 to one senior high school student in the York area annually. The award is given to a student who has shown strong academic values, and school and community involvement. Details of this award are available through York High School or info@yorkjaycees.org.
